Stand Up Paddle Portugal - Paddleboard Lagoa de Obidos
SUP or Stand Up Paddle, is a water-sport currently gaining recognition even though its origins are not so current. It dates back to the 1960s, which is already last century!
Originating from the Hawaian term Ku Hoe Hee Nalu which literally means standing up, rowing and surfing the wave. This surfboard, or Stand Up Paddle, began being used in Hawaii as an observation platform where instructors could keep watch over the trainees and students spread out in the waters while learning to surf. It was also used as a platform where a photografer had a vantage point for taking pictures of tourists learning to surf.
Today it is considered an up-and-coming alternative sport, providing an excellent source of exercise for legs, arms and core. It builds strength and equilibrium while teaching one about the feel of the surfboard. It allows surfers and windsurfers to enjoy their sport of propelling forwards through the water while in the absence of waves or wind!
The calm waters of the Obidos Lagoon are the perfect place to safely begin using and enjoying the Stand Up Paddle. And who knows, one day soon, you might be enjoying the waves of other oceans!
